It was not taken in the midst of Hanukkah 2016 as the date stamp attests. It was taken in the darkness of late winter 2015, when I was sensing a very deep evil. It didn’t have a particular name, or a particular source, it was a general sense that what we knew to be true was almost snuffed out.
We now know so much more. On my aunt Claudia’s deathbed in early April three years prior, just as Dick Clark was breathing his last (and that tie-in for me was profound), her daughter and I were being told of the frightening days ahead. America would see a time so shocking, so deeply immersed in the worst of human acts, that hope would seem all but gone.
She saw hell on earth, and warned us. She was given clear insight to the carnage of the living by genocide; the ruin of law by treachery; the division of people by lies. She understood, as did I, that if we as a nation (and other nations) did not own up to our actions as individuals and a collective there was little hope for humanity. She made expressly clear this administration and its players – practically all of them – and those ‘pretending’ to be defenders of truth – would be found out.
Pizzagate. Pay for play. ISIS. Disloyalty to our laws. Treason. Espionage. Contempt for the people. Corruption and collusion. Grand theft. Psychological warfare. Back room deals. Grandstanding. Lying under oath. World plunder. Nefarious alliances. Murder. Mayhem. The ‘Stand Down’ of our armed forces, protector of life and liberty. Deliberate degrading of soil, air, water, food. Profound poverty.
It was peace for her that cancer took her life, and at that, the incompetent and deliberate forces that pretend to heal because the Hippocratic Oath (do no harm) has been replaced by the Pharmaceutical Legal Liturgy (aka, the ‘warning label’), she really had no chance to remain with us.
America and the world has been through eight years of a major spanking. When you want your way, and you want it without consequence, you will get what’s coming to you. You want the drugs to fix you? You get the addictions, delusions, and false promises. You want no responsibility? You get overlords oh so willing to ‘take care of you’ that will run every aspect of your life and death and NEVER, EVER leave you be. You want to rule without question? You get tyranny. You want to sideswipe law bent to your liking? You get war. You want to fix it so others opposed to you can’t speak? You get trounced. You want minority rule? The majority will rule you.
So, here we are. Another Hanukkah, seemingly darker than before. A new year of uncertainty, except it seems certain that Us vs. Them is going to come to a blow, and all sides are lining up.
Soros has his money and minions. Trump has his elite guards and millions of people watching and prepared to take down trouble. Obama and Clinton and company are either planning a hasty escape or dreaming of going down to the ground in a blaze of bulleted glory (as is the hope of all tyrants). Nations want tribunals first against Obama, Clinton and company before the Americans do because they have their own claims.
Then, there’s Scripture. And Israel. And Revelations. The ending of the ‘post-Christian’ era, the coming of Messiah and the ‘Messianic Millenium’, the reconciliation of the half-brothers (Jew and Muslim) and how we get there (the ‘ultimate Abomination’ in the third Temple and just where that Temple really stood).
In taking time to reflect on Hannukah’s relationship to today, there were many voices of celebrating the moment to some great new music and powerful testimony to move hearts toward the lighting of the Candles and what they represent. Charlie Harary struck the deepest note this year. It was his own encounter with his own grandparents over what was described as ‘a bowl of Cheerios’ and simple wonder that God’s chosen people (and in reality, all who have accepted Messiah’s authority) are a different kind of ‘flame’, a unique character to the world. Our prayers, sufferings, devotions, acts of charity and honor…all of it…reflect back the strength by which nations are waking up. History is being remembered. Truth is screaming. Love is flickering. And joy is on the horizon.
I have never heard an explanation like this before about survival and comeback, but it fits better than any explanation. Sure, God’s chosen have the protection of the Almighty and plenty of evidences showing His advantage wins. But, in so much loss, His advantage is still there. That ‘Israel does not fight with the sword, but fights with Light’ sheds profound understanding is amazing in itself; but the type of light leads us back to the days when Adonai insisted that the light be of a ‘pure type’. Using inferior wood (green or decaying) gives off a different type of light than that of cured wood (bright and brilliant). To be of that quality a period of time necessitates the standard of quality.
Only those who have endured and reflected, like the Jews freed from Hitler’s death machine, could grasp that battles are not worn solely by might and force. When they have been beaten to near death, the Light within had been cured to a place where the living and the dead were so brilliant that their end turned to a new beginning, and their history became their legacy.
America, and other nations before and after us, are crushed by forces known and unknown. Daily it appears our ‘light’ is about to die. But we are seeing light and life returning from the most reliable source: citizens who reject the darkness.
Russia. Egypt. The United Kingdom. Iceland. America. France. Israel. Germany. Syria. Australia. Haiti. Libya.
Nations are nationalizing. Their common citizens are strengthening. Globalism is dying; all their maneuvers are imploding on them. And so many prognosticators – from the pulpit to the market – keep trying to figure out which one of their predictions will be ‘right’.
God has a simple plan: don’t try to figure Him out so as to replace Him. It’s a non-starter, a road to ruin. Wise sages of our past wrote in heralded Scripture what was coming, and what warnings need heeding so as to avoid the worst. The nations are doing that, looking inward and changing their ways outward – some begrudgingly, others vigorously. There is a sense that our very lives depend on disconnecting from the present path; it has shown itself to be unsustainable for life, liberty, peace and security.
Maybe, just maybe this time, the world will be ready for the blessing we await. Day two of the eight days, candles lit to reflect on us.
Remember, your sword is a defensive device. Your light is life.
Each day gets brighter, and the darkness flees.
